Yesterday, I experienced the worst ever effect of Pink Slips. Our company laid off 40 people from various departments. We tried our best but couldn't keep ourselves away from global slowdown. Fortunately, even during booming time, we never hired people like other companies hence the effect was small. But loosing job all of a sudden is not easy for anyone.

All of a sudden the company atmosphere changed from every day's joyful culture to a silent one. Fortunately, there was no layoff from my team. Being a Team Leader, I was encouraging my team members and other employees but at the same time there was a fear of loosing my own job as well. Fortunately nothing  like that happened. I am still on Indiagames payroll.

In the evening I got a call from my sister, who recently joined Mastek after completing her engineering. Her company put 12% of their workforce on virtual bench. Virtual bench means an employee gets a full year leave and salary is reduced to 20%. My sister was part of that.

Thinking positively, I believe its a time for consolidation. One must evaluate himself. Consider this downturn as opportunity than problem and find your own path. In the booming time every idea is great, every one is genius. But as you can see now, most of them failed. One who can think of great idea in current time is great. hence believe on yourself, prove yourself and let others follow you.

Today there was Mumbai Marethon.

Last month I came to know about actual date. Couldn't participate it becuase I couldn't prepare for it. I haven't gone to any trek in last 2 years hence completely out of practice otherwies I would have definitely participated. But I have decided to participate it next year for sure. Will start practice from tomorrow morning 7:00 am for Dream Run !!!! (or Run in Dreams @ 7:00 am )

Today I was returning from my office. Deonar abattoir is on my way. For last one week there is traffic jam because of Bakri Eid. Every evening I see vehicles carrying male goats - bakras. Today I saw one family - a man with his 6-8 yrs old child carrying a bakra in a rickshaw. Generally these animals are not used to with traffic, traveling in vehicles, noises etc. In this auto, the kid was feeding some fresh leaves to the goat and goat was eating it. Both were very much gelled and comfortable with each other. The kid was hugging goat, loving him and the animal was enjoying his company too.

Tomorrow is Bakri Eid and that family is going to kill that animal. Most of the time not in just one single shot .. the animal is going to experience slow painful death - halaal . Does that small kid or that animal aware of it ? If yes, can they have same feeling for each other which they are having now ?

I don't want to make comment on anyone's religion or tradition. But why any GOD will be pleased with any form of kurbani ? Afterall, all living beings are his children only.

Reading the live news about huge crowd gathering at Gateway of India for candle lightening moment. Can't join the moment because of some office work. But my heart is with you all mumbaikars.

Enough is enough now. We are asking for our basic right to live. We need action now !!!!

Today I went to office as  usual. After yesterday's massacre, fighting is still going on in South Mumbai. Despite of warning from police, I went out of my home. May be because I work at Vashi which is 40 kms away from the terror spot; may be I am fearless or just careless; or I have asked my team members to come and my boss is also here ... whatever ...

What I can do at home otherwise ? Watch same 'BREAKING NEWS' again and again ? Take rest and do nothing ? or go to terror spot and help people somehow ?

Young people with age 20-25 are carrying out such attacks. At this age, I was not even graduated. These terrorists are all set to take other people's lives without even understanding its meaning.Can you stop these people ? You can't. No one can stop them. They don't fear death hence they can do anything. I appreciate the great ability of terrorists leaders - they can market 'death'. They can encourage some one to die for something. Can any HR manager do that ?
Then how it can be stopped ? Increase security, have more spending on intelligence, defense, technology so that such attacks can be detected and prevented ? We are at War. So the solution is to win the war or prevent the war ?

While returning from office, I was listening Mukesh's song from Teesari Kasam. Just arranged few lines on similar tune. Putting them here ...

Just got the news about firing in south mumbai and western suberbs area. Terrorists are targetting Mumbai city again. A sad incident. Why can't people live and let others live happily ? What one achieves by killing some one else ?

आज सड़क पर  एक  रैली जा रही  थी |
सरपट-सरपट  दौड़ भाग, बाल दिवस की खुशियाँ फैली  जा  रही  थी  |
अभिभावक अपने नौ निहालों को देख मंद-मंद  मुस्कुराते थे |
खुश हो  उनके  भविष्य की  सुखद कामना लिए , अनूठे सपने सजाते   थे |

पर इन सब  से  दूर , दो  छोटे-छोटे  हाथ , गर्म भट्टी मैं  लोहा  पिघला रहे थे  |
भूली - बिसरी गलियों मैं  अपनी  , कोमल  देह तपा  रहे थे  |
जुलूंस  जब  पास  से निकला  तो  हाथ थम गये | और वो  खिड़की से झाँकने लगे |
उन  नन्ही नीरस आखों  को देख  , एक  बच्चा दूसरे से कहता है |
देख लगता है  उस कोठरी मैं भी बचपन रहता है  |

September 11, 2001; the mighty USA was attacked by terrorist Osama Bin Laden. 7 years are gone now. Lots of equations got changed. USA got chance to attack any country in the world at will. They did and we are seeing the results. Countries like Afghanistan, Iraq are destroyed under the name 'War on Terror' and 'War for Freedom' etc.

I am not a sadist, but WAR is one of my favorite topic. Here, I am trying to relate Terrorism and War.

In past, battles were only limited to battlefield, fought between armies. In the ancient times civilians were affected only while looting the enemy cities after victory. But from 19th century war reached to the normal civilians. Starting with bombing enemy cities, industries till Atom bomb explosion. In 20th century we saw the worst form of it - terrorism. War is at our doorsteps now. Terrorism is just another form of war. Countries or group of people who can not fight directly opt this way. Now my question is: Is it ethical to involve civilians in War ?

Why to involve civilians in the war ? They do not fight in the war. Many times they are completely unaware of the situation and don't even know why it is happening. Its a decision of top level politicians, military generals which is forced on normal citizens. Why someone wants to get into war situations by putting their family life in danger ? Aren't there any other problems in day to day life to fight for ? War disturbs everything. First, it affects moral, psychological balance which leads to several complications. Will you be able to work with your full potential if you are unsure of your family wellness at home ? Is it ethical to kill small children, women, old age citizens just because they belong to your enemy country ? After all they are also human beings like you are. How good is winning the territory after destroying everything ?

The other side of the coin says .. why not ? Aren't these people building economy which supports war ? Increasing moral of armies fighting on front ? Any one of them can become suicide bomber and bounce back. So why leave them. its war .. and everything is fair in Love and War. if their country has started the war, they should also suffer. Finally they are also the ones who'll enjoy fruits of victory. Killing civilians brings down moral of the troops which can help in wining the War. Atomic bomb explosion ended WW2 isn't it ?

That is the exact principle behind terrorism. Terrorists are not directly attacking troops. In fact, they are not capable of doing it. hence they are attacking normal people, trying to win the war on moral grounds. It is a new strategy .. but it is very effective. And unfortunately, we all are at the receiving end of it. Who knows, tomorrow, we may need to face a radioactive dirty bomb or a chemical or biological weapon attack. Terrorism can reach to any extremity.

Lets see how mankind survives from this threat. Is there any end or a possible solution ?
